Sightseeing in Tauferer Ahrntal Valley

sites, all blending naturally into nature and its surroundings.
Tauferer Ahrntal valley (Valle Aurina) is not only a gem of South Tyrol's natural scenery, but also a region full and rich in history. Local traditions and customs as well as art and culture have had a strong and lasting effect on our little valley. Many museums and exhibits tell tales of yesteryear.

Nativity Scene Museum
The name "Maranatha" is Aramaic, Jesus’ mother-tongue, and means „Our Lord May Come“. The impressive collection with numerous carved wooden figures will impress the old and young alike. Distance from vacation rentals: 5 minutes by foot.

Castle Taufers
The mighty Castle Taufers originated from the dynasty of the Sirs of Taufers with impressive and interesting defense fortifications. The well-preserved castle is one of the biggest and most impressive castles of Tyrol. Castle Taufers is located only a few kilometers from our vacation rentals and can be reached via a hiking trail or by car.

Prettau Climate Shaft
The decommissioned Climate Shaft maintains a microclimate that is very beneficial for adults and children with breathing problems. The shaft reaches about 1100 meters inside the mountain and is a place of peace, relaxation, and recuperation.

Mine Tour of Prettau
Since 1440 copper was mined at Rötbach and smelted at Ahrntal Valley. Mining was suspended in 1893. The interior of the St. Ignaz Mine can be toured via a mine train.

Museum of Mining
The Mining Museum has been housed in the mine’s grain store ("Kornkasten") and since the fall of 2000 a Museum of Mining features a collection donated mainly by the Enzenberg Family.

Folk Art Museum
The Museum of Folk Art in Dietenheim by Bruneck opened in 1976. It is spread over 3 hectares of land and contains about two dozen structures that were rebuilt between 1977 and 1993 and would have been destroyed otherwise.

Mineral Museum
Exhibits more than 950 mineral types from the Ziller Valley region and Upper Tauern region formed 30 million years ago in the very depth of our planet Earth. 300 m² of exhibits in St. Johann at Ahrntal Valley.

Holy Ghost Church
The church is located in the lower Ahrntal Valley, adjacent to a large rock. During the winter months cross country skiing is very popular, during the summer months the church is a popular spot for family outings.

Nature Park House Rieserferner-Ahrn
A three-dimensional relief provides information regarding mountains, trails, lodges, lakes and waterfalls. Children will be entertained with fairy tales and legends from the past.

Castle Bruneck
Situated high on a hill and surrounded by strong towers and defense walls, the castle was meant do defend the Pustertal Valley against intruders. In 2010 the fifth and final Messner Mountain Museum is scheduled to be launched by the famous mountain climber Reinhold Messner at Castle Bruneck.

Ötzi, The Iceman
South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology (Bolzano) Over 5.000 years ago a man climbed up to the icy heights of the Schnalstaler Glacier and died. Historical facts and the Iceman’s remains are the central exhibit of the museum.
